Post subject: Predators - A review

OK, saw this tonight. Review follows, as usual first a basic opinion with no spoilers, then a little more detail....
I liked it. It wasn't great or anything, but it was entertaining. The action was pretty steady, the plot was predictable but not boring. A couple of really obvious weak cgi spots, but for the most part it had decent effects.
I rate it not as good as Predator, but better than any of the AvP movies. I will buy it on DVD. I give it about 7 out of 10.

Casting was pretty decent. Adrian Brody was pretty solid. He made an adequate tough guy adventure hero. Danny Trejo had almost no part, which was a bit disappointing. Same with Lawrence Fishburne. The chick was OK (forget her name). There was one guy who was obviously a take on Steve Buscemi from Con Air. The rest were sorta forgettable.
The bits about the aliens was a little muddled. There was room for a story there, and it was implied but never expounded on. A little more of that and slightly less wandering around the jungle might have worked better.
Effects were adequate but unremarkable. Aliens we4re decently done. Some of the environmental stuff was good. A few of the explosions were noticeably weak.
The movie was well paced. Dragged very slightly in the middle a little, but not bad at all. For the most part, action was fast paced and well timed.
Acting performances were solid. No one was amazing, but no one was awful either.
There were two plot twists. One of which was a bit of a surprise and one of which was pretty obvious.
All in all, it was a good fun summer action flick. Take it for that and you will probably enjoy it. |
