Investigating.....

The only thing that will make DRM go away is $. If it's true that a company will make more money by not DRMing their software, then they'll do it. Otherwise they'll keep believing the crazy statistics - 99.7% of all torrents are illegal, $5B in illegal songs were transferred last year, etc etc.

I personally don't mind DRM that isn't intrusive or ridiculous - IE Steam's DRM. The convenience that Steam gives by letting me download all my games and automatically install them just by logging in, is worth it that I have to login to play them.

I am still philosophically uncomfortable with the Steam distribution method, but they have seduced me with the sweet siren's song of being so frigging convenient. That shot an arrow of convenience into my lazy lazy heart, and killed my resistance with one mighty blow.

Now ubisoft's drm where if you lose net connection or servers go down you cannot play/resume the game until the connection is re-established is a bit over the edge. To the point where gaming moments can be ruined with simple connection errors. Things like that that cause more cracks to be distributed and more piracy overall.
